Do you suffer from chronic pain anywhere in your body. anything from that big toe that gets sore and stiff in winter, to all the joints flaring in a full on arthritic eruption.
Every wonder why its great sometimes and more painful at other times. Near to no pain when your happy and unbearable when your not. Or you eat something that upsets your joints, how does that happen?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we look to two organs to help us let go of pain and tension.
The lungs and the large intestines, both organs known for elimination.
The lungs expel old air and toxins and the large intestine the waste food and toxins from the food we eat.
In acupuncture the large intestine like point LI4 is a great point in the crease of the thumb/index finger for relieving pain, headaches and bowel problems. or the arm point LI11 rocks at moving fever, heat, elbow and shoulder pain.
Or even Lung 10 that removes heat and infection from the lungs.
Did you know your digestive system is linked to ever other system, from your cardio system to your lymphatic system to the nervous system in your brain, as it feeds the body, its cells, the bones and deep into the muscles.
But it is only as good as the waste and toxins that it can remove first.
Are we just talking about waste from a physical prospectus or could there be more too it.
Research now shows that our happy hormones are produced in our guts and not as first thought in our brains, so what we eat and can remove is literally what we will think and then feel.
So if we look at on a good day, when our gut is happy, our brain is happy our emotions are lighter, this in turn allows the intestines and the surrounding muscles to relax , Because we feel much calmer and happier, this relaxation allows for freer movement in the organ and gets rid of the toxic material inside of us. This in turn takes it out of our bodies, out of our blood and out from the joints and muscles.
On a bad day, we feel down, our guts feel in knots, usually our eating habits change, some unwise food choices this all leads to mood changes, we tense up, muscles close and toxins get trapped, causing heat, inflammation and pain.
Now lets look at the Lungs, good day we breath freer, more deeply into the torso and chest, the muscle relax as we breath smoothly and with less effort.
Bad day, we tense up, shoulders lift, chest contracts and the breath gets shallow as the space closes in.
How can an Autumn Seasonal Yoga class help ?
We work with the meridian energy around these acupuncture points, our postures focus on moving this energy with our breath up and down these pathways. We focus on releasing tension in the muscles and joints, literally "letting go of issues in the tissues",
We also look at learning to breath better and fuller, strengthen the lungs by using the diaphragm and expanding into muscles in our ribs, but more importantly relaxing the lungs and muscles as we let go and breath out to promote relaxation through the body and into the mind. To help let go of any negative thoughts and emotions. Immediate effect we can change a bad day into a good day.
Long term we can move depression, pain, hurt and things buried deep in the body.
